Camp Sugar Falls Swimming, recreational sports, developmentally appropriate games and activities, and of course diabetes education. SDES’s Camp Sugar Falls program has been a huge success for area youth diagnosed with diabetes. SDES took over the Camp Sugar Falls program from Brookwood Hospital in 2004, and this Birmingham area activity has served as a wonderful pilot for further Camp Sugar Falls programs. Last year, SDES has added a Mobile camp. See below for more details. Camp Sugar Falls, like Camp Seale Harris, provides our kids with the chance to learn about effective diabetes management, while at the same time allowing them to interact with other children living with this same illness. The biggest difference between the two is the program format—Camp Sugar Falls is a weeklong, day camp program while Camp Seale Harris is a residential camp program.
